eye Today whole world is looking positively towards the Indian culture and Indian medical practices. The interest and demand for Ayurveda, Siddha & Unani (AYUSH) system of medicine is increasing day by day both with in Indai and abroad. The increased awareness and attraction raised some of the doubts and queries about the safe preactice3s of AYUSH medicines. In oreder to achieve better acceptance there is a need for monitoring of safety and efficacy of drugs of these systems of medicines and this is a mater of highest concern in global scenario. Though the traditional medical practices are deemed to be safest but sometimes adverse effects of these drugs are observed due to the non judicial use without the prescription, proper guidance and supervision of a qualified and registered medical practitioner of these systems of medicines. Hence the modern world demands the database for their safety usage, so the documentation of the safe practices and any adverse effects of these medicines must be taken on priority basis.

Considering this, Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has initiated to launch a National Pharmacovigilance Programme for reporting the adverse drug reaction for Ayurveda, Siddha & Unani (ASU) drugs and the programme was unveiled by the auspicious hands of Smt. Anita Das, Secretary, Department of AYUSH on 29.09.2008 by releasing the protocol of Pharmacovigilance for ASU drugs (Insert picture of programme). In order to have a proper documentatin, to regulate, monitor and control the activities of Pharmacoigilance, Three tier system is adopted viz. one National Pharmacovigilance Centre (NPC) and thirty peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centers (RPC) and thirty peripheral Pharamacovigilance Centres (PPC) have been set up thorough out the country. Institute for Post Graduate Teaching & REsearch in Ayurveda, Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar is declared as the National Pharmacovigilance Resource Centre.
